E-scooters has been some kind of a trend in America after Lime hits the country hard. However the industry is not facing the same opponent in Southeast Asia. The region has motorcycles dominating the street. But Neuron Mobility from Singapore success in bringing in the hype.
Founded in 2016, the company started in Singapore. The road went smooth as the country has the least number of motorcycles in the region. Yet the company succeeded in raising $3.7 million to bring scooters across Southeast Asia, December 2018.
Other big players such as Bird and Lime are still avoiding the region. This is because the region has a very fragmented market. Therefore expansion to the countries must be done by a local player instead.
Now the company has its scooters available in Singapore, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Cyberjaya. Last April, it started a trial in Darwin, Australia. And it will soon be entering the country officially.
Neuron Mobility will bring its Neuron 3, their own patent scooter to Brisbane. It will make 600 personal mobility devices available in the city. Therefore making it as the city’s largest electric scooter fleet. Together with Lime’s there will be 1000 scooters allowed in the road of Brisbane.
Neuron Mobility wins over Lime in Brisbane
In Australia, there is a new regulation for scooter units. This is due to a previous accident in Brisbane which involved the death of a scooter rider after a crash.
The government then tighten the rules for electric scooters, inviting companies to participate in tender process. Lime, which operates the scooter that has caused a death, only get 400 units granted. While the government granted Neuron with 600 units in the city.
Electric scooter is not only fancy and trendy. The vehicle includes as one of the most sustainable solution for short distance mobility. The slim and light design is also suitable for urban commuters that has to rush between the crowded traffics.
