Nine of the 10 most friendly women workers (who are members of the OECD) are from Europe. Reported from the Women Economic Forum (WEF) wef.org.in, although in several other countries it is working to improve the gender equality gap.
PwC Women Workers 2019 Index
The PwC Women in Work 2019 index shows that the two countries that occupy the top positions are irreplaceable, with Iceland in the first position which is strengthened by the growth of women’s work participation and a reduced number of female unemployment rates.
Meanwhile, Sweden ranks second, one of which is caused by a parental leave policy that encourages men to take their breaks.
The position of Norway which was previously in the top five position was eliminated by Slovenia, which has increased the number of women workers.
New Zealand, the only country not included in the OECD on the index ranked third, the highest position they have ever achieved. Luxembourg and Poland also experienced a rapid increase with the narrowing of the gender wage gap and the large reduction in the unemployment rate of women.
Additionally, the position of Portugal, the United States and Australia has declined sharply. Portugal experienced an increase in the gender wage gap, while the United States and Australia experienced a decline both in terms of women’s work participation and the number of full-time female workers.
PwC also sees the performance of two non-OECD countries, namely China and India.
China which ranks between Slovakia (26) and Japan (27) has a gender payment gap that is greater than average (among OECD) (25 percent) with a relatively high proportion of women working in full-time employment (89 percent).
Meanwhile, India is at the bottom of the PwC index with a large gender wage gap (36 percent) (higher than other OECD countries) and a relatively low level of women’s participation in the workforce.
If India can increase the level of female workers to the same level as Sweden (69 percent), India has the potential to increase its income to 7 trillion US dollars or 79 percent of India’s current GDP position.
