Everybody surely wants to have their meals in a decent and credible restaurant. So it is no surprise that they often count on reviews before going to places. It was, therefore, an opportunity caught quickly by Yod Chinsupakul, Wongnai CEO and founder.
Established in 2010, people often call Wongnai the restaurant review site as Thailand’s Yelp. Dissimilar to their competitors such as Eatigo, the company’s primary offering is restaurant reviews. Although they currently also provide various services.
The company permits users to search for what’s top food in Bangkok and other cities. As well as follow their friends, upload pictures, and write reviews about the visited places. It has become one of the most famous portals in Thailand to look for such information up till this day.
Currently the company is solely focusing on their growth in Thailand. But they appear to be one of the companies who leads the competition. Many even believe that Wongnai comes out on top at the moment.
Wongnai’s feat in Thailand
The company, in 2016, received an undisclosed amount of series B funding from Intouch Holdings through its venture capital arm, InVent. Two years later, in 2018, they made their own investment. They put US$ 1 million in restaurant POS startup FoodStory.
Their astonishing feat is well appreciated by Thais, even by the government. Recently, they were trusted to hold Thailand’s 2019 Bangkok Restaurant Week.
By the end of 2013, Wongnai claimed to have reached one million users and, today, the company claims to have over eight million users in sum. This is a very significant growth for the company. The app is popular not only for locals but also foreign travelers.
Not to mention, they also claim to have 250,000 restaurants across nine cities up their sleeves. With such immense engagement, Wongnai possesses promising potentials for future development, many opined.
