A key safety executive in TikTok is about to leave due to perennial lawmakers’ pressure. The app encountered banning threats in the United States. Next week, Eric Han, TikTok’s Head of US Data Security has his schedule to leave. The Verge was the first to report this news. Meanwhile, CNN has confirmed that he is really leaving.
Maureen Shanahan confirmed this to CNN, he is TikTok spokesperson. Han has held the TikTok position since 2019. Han has brought policy decisions like the aim of reducing the spread of dangerous challenges. Plus, he is also dealing with the crack down on paid political posts done by influencers. In the meantime, Any Bonillo would fill Eric Han’s position. He would become TikTok’s interim general manager of US data security. It is permanent until the firm find replacement.
Unfortunately, at the moment, TikTok is in the face of losing a key safety leader during tough moments. The pains add as US lawmakers have ramped up calls for nationwide ban of the up in recent months. The US lawmakers are concerned that ByteDance (TikTok’s parent company) could post national risk to the United States.
In March, the federal officials demanded that they should sell their stake in the social media platform. Otherwise, they must take the risk because the US lawmakers will ban the app. So far, Montana lawmakers have approved legislation to ban TikTok on personal devices. This means that other state could easily ban TikTok too. In addition, it is way easier to ban TikTok as the state’s governor signed the bill.
