Microsoft said Monday that it has acquired BlueTalon. BlueTalon is a start-up whose software can prevent people from accessing certain high-value data that companies keep. However, the details of Microsoft latest acquisition of weren’t disclosed.
Over time, the acquisition could help Microsoft’s campaign. The acquisition will make companies feeling more comfortable with the idea of keeping sensitive data in its Azure public cloud. Microsoft’s cloud, now, competes with Amazon and other companies.

People get familiar with Microsoft’s move. It continues its pattern of commercializing tools that fall outside of the company’s own technology stack. Microsoft derives revenue when people run the open-source Linux operating system in its cloud, despite its heritage as the maker of proprietary Windows. Besides, Microsoft now also owns GitHub. GitHub is a place where developers go to get and contribute to many open-source software projects.
Moreover, Microsoft has also become more active around data storage mechanisms. Specifically, their mechanism always doesn’t involve Microsoft’s own SQL Server database software. They aim to empower enterprises across the industry to digitally transform.
Microsoft still plans to continue its strategy. They want to continue exploring partnership opportunities with various hyper-scale cloud providers. They want to better serve their customer.
Before Microsoft latest acquisition, they bought Citus Data. It is a start-up that specialized in helping companies use the open-source PostgreSQL database.

BlueTalon
BlueTalon was founded in 2013. It provides data-centric security, user access control, and data masking. Besides, the company also offers hybrid data solutions for complex, hybrid data environments.
BlueTalon’s technology works with a variety of systems for storing data. That includes Hadoop, Spark, and PostgreSQL. The software lets people run queries on sensitive data to make observations. At the same time, they will not reveal the actual underlying information.
