As the meme says, we would have flying cars in the future. Now, this appears to be happening soon as Japan demonstrated a flying car recently.
Tokyo-based firm NEC tried out a prototype flying car in Abiko, Japan. According to The Japan Times, the company aimed to collect flight data by conducting the stunt.
“Japan is a densely populated country and that means flying cars could greatly alleviate the burden on road traffic,” stated a leader of the project at NEC, Kouji Okada.
“We are positioning ourselves as an enabler for air mobility, providing location data and building communications infrastructure for flying cars.”
With the length of 3.9 meters, width of 3.7 meters, height of 1.3 meters, and weight about 150 kilograms, the prototype resembles a huge drone. During its try-out, this “drone” hovered for about one minute and landed afterwards.
Although the duration was quite short, but it flew. In other words, it works. This surely remarks an indubitable success and a promising result in the future.
However, NEC has no intention to mass-produce it right now. Instead, the prototype will undergo further development.
For the mass-production, project partner Cartivator will more likely do it by 2026. Accordingly, Cartivator’s co-founder Tomohiro Fukuzawa made the statement.

Flying Car Business
Japan’s NEC and Cartivator are not the one and only firms intending to develop this transportation. Big companies such as Uber, Boeing, and Kitty Hawk also join the race.
For instance, Israel’s start-up NFT revealed Aska to public last year. Aska itself is a dual-purpose vehicle to drive on roads and to fly through the sky. Compared to NEC’s prototype, Aska is predicted to enter the open market in 2025.
The development of flying cars itself has a long backstory. In 1940, Henry Ford, automotive pioneer, wrote a statement saying that the combination of an airplane and motor car would come. As recent development indicated, this would likely to happen soon.
With this in mind, flying cars might be one of the most promising business in the future. Not only revolutionary, but this will also help reduce traffic jams and raise efficiency in transportation.
This type of business will surely be beneficial for humanity. However, humans must wait to enjoy this advancement. If this keeps going, further updates are expected to follow, soon.
