Samsung is having a rough time in China’s smartphone market, in the last few years. It faces intense competition from local players. The local players are Huawei and Xiaomi. Therefore, the South Korean technology’s market share has plunged to 1% in one of the world’s largest smartphone markets. Thus, a Samsung 108-megapixel image sensor is launched to increase its share.
Besides, Samsung’s operating 55% year on year in the second quarter.
On Monday, Samsung introduced what it claimed to be the industry’s first 108-megapixel image sensor. The sensor is in its smartphone cameras. With that sensor, the camera creates a picture resolution equivalent to a “high-end DSLR camera.”

Samsung Win on China Market
Samsung’s image sensor will also be used by the Xiaomi phone this year. The company uses it as a strategy to win market share in China’s handset industry. Previously, Xiaomi used Sony sensors.
Besides, Samsung has also scored other wins. That includes winning Chinese consumer electronics firms, Oppo. Oppo has also decided to use the South Korean firm’s image sensors.
The company remains optimistic to gain a foothold in China.
Targeting Chinese firms is a good strategy for Samsung’s growth. The main reason for that is the three of the world’s top five biggest smartphone players by market share are from China. In the domestic market, four of the top five players are Chinese. This can help Samsung gain ground in China.
Other than that, Motorola, that owned by China’s Lenovo, has announced that they will use the Samsung processor. The announcement was in May. This adds to the success of Samsung in China’s smartphone market.

Samsung Commitment to Chinese Market
Samsung has shown commitment to the Chinese market by investing in new factories. Last year, the company build a second production line for memory chips at its factory in the Chinese city of Xi’an. Earlier this year, Samsung said that it would invest $116 billion in advanced processing chips. It was one of its plans to diversify its business away from reliance on memory chips.
Chinese consumers want the latest technology in their devices. Thus, Samsung is looking to build that through its research and development efforts.
