Porsche unveiled its first pure electric sports car, the Taycan on Thursday for the first time in the world. The company unveiled it at three regions at the same time.
“Taycan is a very important product that connects the successful legacy of the Porsche brand. Which has fascinated the world for more than 70 years, to the future,” said Oliver Blume. He is the chairman of Porsche’s board of directors at the World Premier event in Berlin. “Today is a historical day for Porsche to mark the beginning of a new era.”
Taycan’s “Turbo S” and Tycan’s “Turbo,” will be introduced for the first time among the Tikan lineups. Both reflect the state-of-the-art Porsche E-Performance. The Tikan’s flagship Turbo S has a maximum horsepower of 761.
It takes only 2.8 seconds to accelerate (zero-back) from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour. With up to 680 horsepower, the Tycan Turbo has a zero-back time of 3.2 seconds.
Based on the new European Standard Test (WLPT), the turbo S is 412 kilometers long and the turbo is 450 kilometers long. Both models are four-wheel drive and have a maximum speed of 260 kilometers per hour.
Sales prices for the Taycan Turbo S and the Taycan Turbo in the German market start at 185,456 euros and 152,136 euros, respectively. Information on all specifications and options varies from country to country.
And information on schedule and price for domestic release is not available just yet. Porsche side reportedly plans to bring the Tycan into the Asian countries next year.
Tesla: “Porsche Taycan is proof Elon Musk’s EV mission is moving forward”
Porsche takes the lead in the era of electricization. It plans to invest a total of 6 billion euros to equip 65 percent of all Porsche vehicles by 2025. Then 89 percent by 2028 with hybrid and pure electric vehicles.
Many already called Porsche Tycan as the “Tesla Killer”. But Tesla’s side denied it, stating that it is only a proof that Elon Musk’s EV mission is moving forward.
Tesla has been a leader on the EV market, one of the few companies focusing only on producing EV and not other cars. Behind it, stands NIO from China and Japanese car maker companies.
