Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Fold was sold out in about 10 minutes after it started making advance reservations or pre-orders.
Although its price is very high, at KRW 2.4 million, consumers’ expectations for foldable smartphones are high. Despite the precious dent it has shown at the initial launch.
Samsung representative for mobile telecommunication department reported this on the 5th. Stating that SK Telecom and KT received pre-bookings of Galaxy Fold through official online mall starting at 11 a.m. On the same day SK Telecom sold all of its supplies in 15 minutes and KT in 10 minutes, according to the two companies.
Galaxy Fold will be officially sold on the 6th of this month and will be available on the physical stores at the same day. LG Uplus e-commerce did not receive online reservations for the Galaxy Fold, though.
How Galaxy Fold manage to sold out still despite the price and past fault
The Galaxy Fold has been set at a high price of KRW 2.398 million since it is part of the super-premium product line. Although its price is KRW 1.15 million more expensive than the lowest-priced Galaxy Note 10 model. But it seems that its sales reflect expectations for the world’s first foldable smartphone.
“We did not expect such popularity. Due to the fact that there have been many new 5G smartphone releases such as Galaxy Note 10 and high hurdles in terms of price. But many people have been waiting for Galaxy Fold,” said a Samsung representative for the mobile telecommunication department.
The initial supplies of Galaxy Folds in South Korea will be between 20,000 and 30,000 units only. Advance reservations for Galaxy Folders has ended. Thus, consumers who want to buy Galaxy Folders will have to wait for additional supplies to be received.
The new launch of Galaxy Fold, alongside Galaxy A90 5G adds a new line of product for Samsung. It added the few number of 5G smartphones the company has released, welcoming the upcoming era of 5G.
