Have you ever played PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds? If you have, you must have heard about Tencent, the Disney of gaming industry. If you have not, you better know this China’s conglomerate.
In 2019, Tencent is still crowned as the world’s largest gaming company according to Business Insider. The company does not only rule China, one of the biggest markets for the industry, but the influence is worldwide.
Unlike its competitors such as Sony and Nintendo, Tencent does not produce its own console. So, how can the company be number one without having the needs to produce or sell its very own console?
The answer of that question is because of the number of players for each game and also its microtransaction. Tencent has numerous prominent games such as League of Legends, PUBG, Arena of Valor, and so forth.
However, it does not end there. This giant also owns a significant portion of various popular games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, Assassin’s Creed, and so forth.
To illustrate its notable success, the Chinese version of PUBG, Game for Peace of Peacekeeper Elite, has more than 50 million daily active users just a few months after its launch.
However, gaming is not the only reason why Tencent has become so gigantic. Accordingly, the company also plays a great role in other sectors.
