Unicorn and Decacorn Startups with Big Achievements

In recent years, the presence of startups continues to grow. Reporting from Startup Ranking, there are around 88,736 startups in the world.

What is the difference between unicorn and decacorn?

Unicorn is a term for startups that have a valuation of more than 1 billion US dollars or Rp. 14 trillion. Meanwhile, Decacorn is a startup whose valuation is 10 times higher than Unicorns, more than 10 billion US dollars.

Data from CB Insights shows that in January 2019, there were 300 unicorn startups and 16 decacorn startups in the world. Furthermore, most of these startups are in the United States and China, there are only about eight in Southeast Asia.

Airbnb

The Airbnb site has long been a mainstay of tourists who want to find a place to stay. Through the site and its applications, users can search and book lodging, ranging from apartments, villas, bed and breakfast, to one house.

You can find the services in almost all major cities in the world. At present, the valuation of the startup from San Francisco is 29.3 billion US dollars or equivalent to Rp 415 trillion.

SpaceX

Elon Musk found SpaceX in Hawthorne, California, United States, in 2002. The company is engaged in rocket manufacturing and space transportation. In addition, SpaceX has developed Falcon 1 and 9 rockets, as well as the Dragon spacecraft. Falcon rocket itself was created to be a reusable vehicle. With these various innovations, SpaceX has reached a valuation of 21.5 billion US dollars or Rp 314 trillion.

Grab

The only decacorn company originating from Southeast Asia is the Online-to-Offline (O2O) mobile platform Grab.

Since acquiring Uber in 2018, the company has not only become a provider of ordinary transportation services. Moreover, Grab as the leading Super App in Southeast Asia, offers daily solutions with transportation services, delivery of goods and food, mobile payments, and digital entertainment.

Furthermore, with an open platform philosophy, Grab brings together partners to make life better for all users in Southeast Asia. Then, with 130 million consumers, there are 336 cities including 222 cities in Indonesia, and more than 5,000 Grabbers, Grab’s own valuation reaches 11 billion US dollars or Rp 154 ​​trillion.
