We rarely use the term “unicorn” in our daily conversations, especially the layman. So, what actually the Unicorn is?
Unicorn is the term used for a start-up company valued at over $1 billion. There are around four start-up companies in Indonesia in this present time.
How unicorn rises in Indonesia?

How it affects the Indonesian economy?
Meanwhile, Bambang Brodjonegoro, the chief of the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning, stated that unicorn brings a significant effect to the Indonesian economy.
“A huge market value will definitely invite the investors to invest their fund,” Bambang said, cited from tempo.com on Tuesday (19/2).
Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning is currently conducting research to anticipate digital economic development and the 4.0 industrial revolution. According to Bambang, the unicorn is one of many companies that can transform the domestic economy.
You should know that Indonesia has four unicorn or start-up companies namely Go-Jek, Tokopedia, Traveloka, and Bukalapak.
Recently, Go-jek has received a $1,2 billion funds that make Go-jek valuation reach $4 billion or equal to 53 trillion rupiahs.
The Incorporated company Tokopedia has received a $1,1 billion fund or around 14,7 trillion rupiahs from Alibaba Group last August 2017. They also received $100 million fund or equal to 1,3 trillion rupiahs last 2014 from Softbank Japan and Sequoia Capital.
Meanwhile, Traveloka has gained the fund from an American Company namely Expedia in June 2017 equal to $350 billion or around 4,6 trillion rupiah. By the amount of the fund, Traveloka has valued $2 billion or 26,6 trillion rupiahs.
The CEO of Bukalapak, Achmad Zaky, mentioned that Bukalapak valuation has reached more than 13,5 trillion rupiahs.
