Following Samsung Electronics in China, Huawei started selling its foldable Smartphone, ‘Mate X‘ on the 15th. Samsung Galaxy Fold released a week ago, sold out in just two seconds at Samsung’s online store. While Huawei’s Mate X sold out all of its first shipments in less than a minute.
Huawei sold the Mate X at Huawei’s online store from 10:08 a.m. Like Samsung, Huawei did not disclose the supply. And its’ online store ran out of supplies in less than a minute.
Huawei announced that it will sell a small amount of Mate X every Friday at 10:08 a.m. The next sale date is the 22nd of this month.
It seems that Huawei also released limited supplies to markets on the same day. Speculations arise that Samsung has prepared 20,000 units of Galaxy Fold for the Chinese market.
Unlike in-folding Galaxy Fold, Mate X has an out-folding method. When folded, a front 6.6-inch primary display and a back 6.36-inch secondary display shows. When expanded, the two displays will be connected and will grow to 8 inches.
Despite the price and weakness, Mate X still sold out rapidly
The price of the Mate X is 16,999 yuan, 1,000 yuan more expensive than the Galaxy Fold.
While Samsung only launches the 4G version of Galaxy Fold in China, Huawei lunches it in the 5G mode. China started commercial 5G service on the 1st of this month.
The Mate X is Huawei’s second new smartphone to be released after the Mate 30 since the U.S. government sanctions began in May.
Like the Mate 30, the Mate X has not been sold to foreign markets such as Europe. Because it is equipped with an open-source version of Android, which is not a formal contract version. Therefore, the battle between the Galaxy Fold and the Mate X will only take place in the Chinese market for the time being.
Mate X is only available on Huawei’s online stores.
Huawei explained through the Internet ahead of its launch that the Mate X screen can not bend in an environment below minus 5 degrees Celsius.
Some Chinese Internet users pointed out that Beijing and many other regions in China often saw their temperatures drop below minus 5 degrees Celsius in winter. And that the Mate X’s technology was not mature yet, but it was premature to launch it.
However, seeing how the phone sold out in less than one minute, it proved that many do not really think of it as a real problem.
