Motorola finally unveiled its foldable phone Razr, which has been rumored since the beginning of the year, at an open event in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
While maintaining Razr-like design in the past, it reborn with 6.2-inch plastic OLED screen. It is a ‘clamshell’ type attached because it folds up and down like a shell.
The ratio of screens is 21:9, and it has recently maintained the size of screens for smartphones. While Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy fold will become a tablet when it unfolds.
A notch for speakers and cameras (with a fine screen) is on top of the screen and a curved jaw at the bottom. At the outer part of it, a 2.7-inch Quick Display installed. This outer display will show check alerts, control music, and for taking selfies.
Motorola Razr, the same foldable smartphone but without the weaknesses of other foldable smartphones
Wrinkles seen on the demonstration screen, just like those in Galaxy Fold and Mate X. However, Motorola believes that there is no problem with its use.
It claims to have applied special coating technology to make panels that are resistant to scratches. As well as wrapped edges with stainless steel frames to prevent external substances from entering them.
Motorola said it has fully verified the durability of the laser’s foldable screen “flex display,” adding that it is not feared to cause controversy like the foldable smartphone released earlier. The company also mentioned that its own research has confirmed that foldable screens can be used as long as the life of a smartphone.
Furthermore, Motorola offers a laser-only consumer program. If the screen breaks while being used in normal situations, Motorola repairs it free of charge. Repair or exchange of products is guaranteed within 24 hours if a screen is damaged, and if a screen is damaged due to a consumer error, it can be repaired for $299 ($350,000).
However, the Motorola laser-only consumer program is only available in the U.S. Motorola sells lasers only through Verizon among U.S. mobile network operators. It is not yet clear whether other carriers and exports will be exported.
Razr foldable phones have Snapdragon 710 processor, and available in 6GB RAM and 128GB
Compared to Galaxy folds ($1,980) and Mate X ($2,600), Motorola Razr will cost $1,500. Pre-orders will begin in the U.S. on April 26, and the launch will be Jan. 9 next year. In Europe, the sale starts in December.
