Indonesia asked tech giant Google to build a data center in the country. Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Johnny G. Plate, told local reporters, and Google Indonesia during an event.
Accordingly, Google itself already erected many Tier 4 data centers all around the globe to optimize data security and network connectivity. Those data centers are paramount to ensure that Google’s data and servers will always be on at any time.
Considering Indonesia’s future potential, the minister argues that Indonesia Google data center is important to construct one in the country since Indonesia has a huge number of internet users. Indonesia’s potential is so promising that its digital economic activity will be worth USD 130 billions in 2024, predictions say.
“I ask Google to build data center within Indonesia’s territory,” said Minister Johnny. “We have discussed with neighboring countries to ensure that data is for both the country and the people.”
Among the many benefits of the establishment, the data center will boost internet traffic in the region, potentially raising the download and upload speed significantly. In addition, it will facilitate Indonesian start-ups who use Google Cloud services such as Tokopedia and Gojek.

Google Responds to Indonesia’s Request for Data Center
In response to the ministry’s request, Google said that the project is actually in progress. Head of Corporate Communications at Google Indonesia, Jason Tedjasukmana, explained that Google is building the system, specifically Cloud, and next is probably a data center.
“Cloud region is happening and will be ready in the first half of 2020 in Jakarta. We have announced it a year ago,” Jason told reporters.
The physical of the Cloud region is already under construction. Accordingly, Google is answering its clients’ request so that the company can provide better services.
Google’s Cloud Region is a global plan that does not merely take place in Indonesia. Besides Jakarta, the tech leviathan is expanding in some busy cities such as Seoul, Las Vegas, and Salt Lake City.
