Apple Inc. CEO, Tim Cook, stated in a recent interview with Nikkei Asian Review that Apple AR will be “the next computer platforms”.
Cook said that AR (Augmented Reality) potential to overlay digital information is “maximum core” technology. And that it will be something that people use all the time.
AR, which projects virtual content in real space, is the key future technology. The Apple CEO also mentioned that this technology has a big ripple effect to change the aspects of computers that people use
In addition, Cook also stated that Apple is supporting AR developers with technology. And thanks to this, the company will apply AR to various sectors such as shopping, work, and education.
Apple and its AR future
Previously, Cook has consistently noted AR sever times. “ARs are amplifying human performance,” said Cook at a conference call in 2018. I myself believe in AR’s capabilities, and I’m putting a lot of energy into research and development,” he stressed.
This is how the company started the ARKit project. It is a framework that improves the AR performance of Apple’s iPhone and iPad. Apple’s ARKit is steadily improving to support AR apps. ARKit and related functions are also available in the new Apple’s iPhone 11 series.
Apple’s AR Glass news is also frequently heard in the industry. And rumors spread that Apple’s patent for AR glass has leaked several times and its team has disbanded. Cook did not mention the development of Apple’s AR glass. But he said in 2017 that he prefers AR to virtual reality. “It is thanks to an idea that will grow to the level of a smartphone,” he said.
