Huawei, China’s largest telecommunication equipment to reportedly supports 5G technology in the UK. Huawei, which is under US sanctions, is active in Europe
According to Japan’s Nikkei Asian Review, Huawei opened a 5G Innovation & Experience Center in London. Allowing consumers to experience services using 5G such as cloud-based games and remote medical services. As well as promoting 5G-related R&D by local companies.
In October, besides Huawei UK, it also established a 5G center in Switzerland, strengthening cooperation with local companies and pushing for research on 5G-related technologies.
Huawei has signed contracts with more than 60 telecommunication companies around the world to commercialize 5G. Half of which are European companies. And 5G network, launched in July by Vodafone Group, Europe’s leading telecommunication company, also has some Huawei equipment. According to German market research firm Iplitics, Huawei, China, has 3,325 5G standard patent declarations, the world’s No. 1 patent.
Still, the US ban exists for Huawei and the UK is one an ally
The U.S. pressed its allies to join the Huawei ban by pointing out the Huawei issue. The British government has yet to give a specific response about this, reported Nikkei.
In May, the U.S. government imposed sanctions on Huawei to ban transactions with U.S. companies as a means of a trade war with China and China. Huawei appears to be trying to avoid U.S. pressure through Europe.
“What we have opened today will enable true collaboration amongst U.K. businesses and technologists and showcase the huge potential of 5G applications for both the private and business sectors,” Jerry Wang, CEO of Huawei’s British arm, said in a statement.
Previously, New Zealand provider has also announced the use of Huawei equipment to strengthen the 5G technology in the country. However, the country’s close relationship with the US put the government in a difficult position to give it a go.
US has still been encouraging its allies to follow the US ban on Huawei.
