Samsung is reportedly preparing the launch of a cheaper version of its foldable smartphone. Previously, it had hit a successful sale of Galaxy Fold.
TechCrunch, a U.S. IT media outlet, stated that Samsung managed to sell 1 million units of the Galaxy Fold were sold at its IT conference “Dropt Berlin” in Berlin, Germany.
“The sales target of 1 million units is the story when Galaxy Fold was released in April of this year as scheduled,” a Samsung Electronics official said. “With the launch postponed for about five months, the sales target was down to 500,000 units.”
Preparing new Samsung foldable smartphone with lower price to focus on popularization
Samsung plans to further expand its portfolio of foldable phones. Early next year, it is likely that Samsung Electronics will introduce a new foldable smartphone. The phone will be in the form of ‘clamshell’, as the company introduced at Samsung Development Conference (SDC) last October.
Clamshell is the name given in the sense that it opens and closes up like a shell. It’s easy to think of a ‘flip phone’ that you used to use a lot. A book is a different form that opens from side to side.
According to the video released at the time, the new foldable phone has two screens, up and down. And a “punch hole” design that creates holes in the screens that previously found in the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10.
Considering the timing of the release, major specifications of the product have surged up. Including the possibly 12GB RAM and 256GB storage on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 processor.
The media predicted the price to be around $100. Samsung is reportedly aiming to ship 6 million foldable phones in 2020. And it is also speeding up the distribution of foldable phones with the product.
