The most downloaded app by users around the world over the past decade appeared to be Facebook. While the app that users spent the most time with is Netflix.
According to App Annie, an app analysis company, Facebook apps ranked first through fourth in the global app download rankings in the 2010s (2010-19). The Facebook app topped the list, followed by Facebook Messenger at No. 2, WhatsApp at No. 3 and Instagram at No. 4.
Facebook once became the world’s largest social media company by acquiring Instagram in 2012 and buying WhatsApp two years later.
The 2010s is a time when Facebook’s advance is noticeable, said App Annie. Adding that as many as seven of the top 10 apps that recorded the most downloads in the 2010s are fully established through communications and social media apps.

In the consumer spending sector, where users spent money, the advances of Netflix and other entertainment apps stood out.
With Netflix topping the list, more than half of the top 10 video streaming apps (Tencent Video (4th), iQIYI (6th), and HBO Now (9th).
The app that showed the most noticeable growth in terms of consumer spend is “Tinder,” which ranked second. Tinder is the most successful dating app in terms of all-time consumer spend over the past decade. Since the service was launched in 2012, it has also overtaken Netflix as the No. 1 all-time consumer spend app worldwide among non-game apps in the first half of this year.
Users also spent a lot of money on music strip-blind apps. Pandora Music came in third and Spotify came in seventh.
Meanwhile, the number of downloads in the mobile market has increased by more than 5 percent and consumer spending by more than 15 percent every year over the past decade, the report showed. This year, it recorded 120 billion downloads and 90 billion dollars in consumer spending.
