The U.S. economic media CNBC reported that Apple is estimated to have made up to $50 billion in sales at its AppStore alone in the fiscal year of 2019.
Apple has paid a total of 155 billion dollars to app developers since 2008. The figure represents a $35 billion increase from $120 billion in payments made in January last year.
Considering that Apple usually pays 70 percent of its app sales to developers, CNBC counter-estimated sales of its AppStore last year. Analysts say that if Apple included a $15 billion share it would have earned up to $50 billion from the AppStore alone.
It ranks 64th on the Fortune 500 list of Apple AppStore sales alone. Although it falls short of investment bank Morgan Stanley, it is bigger than the global security and telecommunication equipment company Cisco.
However, the growth of AppStore is slowing down. In 2017, payment by app developers rose 30 percent from the previous year. While that of last year was only 2.9 percent higher than the previous year’s $34 billion.
Overall sales in the service sector, which Apple is using as its new growth engine, are worth $46.2 billion. In addition to the AppStore, it includes sales of licenses such as subscription-type services. Such as Apple Music and Apple TV Plus, iPhone warranty services. And fees for carrying basic specifications of Google search engine iPhones.
AppStore sales aside, Apple is launching a cheap iPhone in 2020
