Mobile analytics company App Annie released the annual report of ‘State of Mobile’ on the 15th. It analyzes the ecosystem and trends of mobile apps worldwide within 2019.
The total number of downloads from apps worldwide rose 6 percent on-year to 204 billion last year, according to the report. The figure is up about 45 percent compared to the previous 2016.
Global spending surpassed $120 billion, up 2.1 times from 2016. Emerging markets such as India, Brazil, and Indonesia drove download growth, according to the company. Each grew by 190%, 40%, and 70% respectively.
Of the total, South Korea stands as one of the biggest spending countries by downloading a total of 2 billion apps last year and spending $5 billion. This is the result of a two-fold growth compared to 2016.
Meanwhile, China has shown 80% of growth. On the other hand, the United States recorded a poor 5% growth only.

WhatsApp messenger tops Worldwide Monthly Active Users of non-game apps in 2019. Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Wechat, Instagram, and TikTok followed behind. While the Top Game still has PUBG Mobile by Tencent at the first and Candy Crush Saga at the second.

Meanwhile, a Couple matching app Tinder tops the Worldwide Consumer Spend in 2019. Netflix placed second before Tencent Video, iQIYI, Youtube and others.
Though not being in the top 5 of most categories above, TikTok’s performance in 2019 still remains outstanding. The Chinese short video sharing platform records rapid growth last year. Consumer time spends on the app grew up to 210% last year.
App Annie predicted that mobile advertising will be the biggest result this year. “As the streaming war begins in earnest, consumers will decide where to spend 674 billion hours spent on mobile devices,” an Anni App official said. “The mobile market will grow to an unprecedented level.”
