Xiaomi placed first in India smartphone market of the fourth quarter 2019.
According to a market research company Counterpoint Research on the 27th, Samsung Electronics ranked third in the Indian smartphone market. While Xiaomi and Vivo leads the league in the fourth quarter of last year. Samsung went 1 percentage point down from 20 percent a year earlier.
It is the first time that Samsung Electronics ranked third on a quarterly basis in the Indian smartphone market. Samsung Electronics continues to be the top smartphone maker in India. Since giving up the top spot to Xiaomi for the first time in 2018, it has rarely recovered its peak.
Samsung Electronics reorganized its mid- to low-priced lineup with Galaxy A and Galaxy M to target India last year. But it seems that it failed to overcome the Chinese company’s aggressive push for supplies with caustic funds.
Xiaomi and other Chinese smartphone makers still dominate India market
Xiaomi India retained the top spot with 27 percent in the fourth quarter of last year. While Vivo came in second with 21 percent. Vivo’s market share was 10 percent year-on-year, but its shipments grew 132 percent. Chinese companies Oppo (12%) and Realmi (8%) ranked 4th and 5th respectively.
The combined market share of Chinese companies rose to 72 percent last year, compared with 60 percent in 2018, Counterpoint Research said. Xiaomi, Realmi and One Plus have grown significantly as they increase offline sales points and Vivo have increased their share of online channels,” the analyst said.
Last year, Xiaomi (28 percent), Samsung Electronics (21 percent), Vivo (16 percent), Realmi (10 percent), and Oppo (9 percent). Xiaomi, Vivo, Realmi and Oppo grew 5 percent, 76 percent, 255 percent and 28 percent, respectively. But Samsung Electronics saw its annual shipments drop 5 percent. According to Counterpoint Research, the Indian smartphone market grew 7 percent on-year last year, surpassing the U.S. in terms of annual shipments to 158 million units.
Meanwhile, Samsung has just launched its Galaxy Note 10 Lite and Galaxy S10 Lite in the Indian market.
