Ethereum successfully completed the Istanbul network upgrade as scheduled.
The ethereum Istanbul upgrade, applied to the entire network based on Ethereum’s 90.69 millionth block, is the third upgrade this year. Previously, it had the Saint Petersburg in February and Constantinople upgrades.
Istanbul is the eighth hard-fork of the Ethereum network, whose upgrade content and code were finalized last June. The upgrade to the so-called Ethereum 2.0 changes the method of agreement from the current working certificate to the equity certificate. It is scheduled for the coming 2021.
Both major Ethereum clients said they supported the Istanbul upgrade. In fact, after Hardfork, they had carried out the upgrades needed for the new protocol and applied the new software.
Ethereum Upgrade: successful, yet be careful
The code itself was simple and eventually, the upgrade went smoothly. But Etherium Core developer Hudson Jameson said that if major clients like Parity failed to upgrade the paycheck on time, there could have been problems with the whole Etherium. Including double payments.
Parity software shares around 23 percent of the total Etherium network. And most of miners and exchanges use Parity.
Istanbul does not support 680 smart contracts on the governance platform Aragon. This means that there will be no smart contracts.
In addition, major code changes will change the way funds travel between the decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs). Users have to manually move and record smart contracts directly from one DAO to another.
Further, Bitcoin Exchange Guide gave cautions as there are accounts that impersonate the Etherium Foundation on YouTube and Telegram.
Some users of Telegram are using the Ethereum Foundation’s name and official logo. It also pointed out about the scam that airdrops 20,000 Ethereum (ETH). It appeared to be successful by impersonating Ethereum founder Vitalick Buterin.
Foreign media outlets stressed that they must check the Ethereum Foundation’s official accounts and channels, and that they should attach https to the domain address to check if it is an official website.
Previously an Ethereum theft happened in Upbit caused thousands of dollar loss for the exchange.
