It is a set of strategy elaborated from Bruce Perry, founder of Neurosequential Network interview with Bloomberg.
Dysregulated Psychological Function
The most important feeling attached to every worker is “I’m in an environment where people care for me and respect me.” In his study, Perry said this is the regulated psychological function. When employees are in the regulated state, they have access to the cortex. Having cortex access means they are able to perform the best with healthy psychological conditions.
But there is the dysregulated psychological function too. Perry said when a person works too long without resting or eating, the person can get out of balance. In this state, employees can get dysregulated affecting their psychological functioning directly. Commonly, people are doing things to balance their equilibrium where they can feel safe, comfortable, and full. Balancing equilibrium enables the employee to be in the regulated state.
To sum up, the cortex is basically a vital part of the brain that is sensitive to psychological conditions. As the cortex is the source of employee performance such as productivity, innovation, and creativity, it is important to not disrupt this sensitive part. Balancing equilibrium by not working too much, building a good environment, and respecting employees are the ways to regulate psychological function.
