Exxon Mobil, an oil and gas company from the United States (US), denies any news between ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods and US President Donald Trump.
The news came from Trump’s mouth who mentioned Exxon during his campaign in Arizona. Trump at that time prided himself on being able to raise more funds than Joe Biden, his rival in the upcoming election on November 3rd.
“We are aware of the President’s statement regarding his summons with our CEO … and to be clear, it never happened,” Exxon tweeted on its official Twitter account quoted by CNN, Wednesday (21/10/2020).
Trump claimed that he is strong supporter of the fossil fuel industry
Trump boasted that he had been a strong supporter of the fossil fuel industry. This is considered by Trump to make himself superior to Biden. Because he could easily raise campaign funds from the oil and gas industry.
So far, Trump has raised nearly $ 13 million in campaign funds from individuals at oil and gas companies, according to OpenSecrets, a US research group. That amount is much larger than Biden’s $ 976,000 campaign fund.
Trump’s campaign funds is the greatest
The amount of Trump’s current campaign funds is greater than the last three presidential elections, according to OpenSecrets.
For example, in 2016 the oil and gas industry only sent $ 24,000 more to Trump than Hillary Clinton and groups allied with former Democratic presidential candidates.
In 2012, Republican candidate Mitt Romney beat former President Obama with a campaign fund of US $ 5.9 million to US $ 841,000. And in 2008, former US Senator John McCain only raised about three times that of Obama.
“Regulatory policy is very aggressive towards the oil industry. And the (oil) industry wants to stay that way,” said Greg Valliere, head of US policy strategy at AGF Investments.
Trump also boasted about calling himself the biggest (campaign) fundraiser in history. Trump asked Exxon for US $ 25 million for campaign funds.
“So I called someone, CEO of Exxon …. ‘Hi, how are you? How’s the energy coming? When are you doing the exploration? Oh, you need some permits, huh? OK …. I want you to send me $ 25 million for campaign, “Trump said.
