KFCKentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is redesigning its business concept since the Corona virus (COVID-19) broke out. During this pandemic, KFC emphasized drive-thru and limited human contact.
KFC reveals two new designs. Highlighting the fact that diners’ habits have shifted to delivery rather than eating at restaurants.
“Proving the need for a modernized design. The existing KFC store design, called the ‘American Showman’ will eventually be phased out to support one of the two new concepts,” said the company as quoting by CNN, Thursday (19/11/2020).
KFC: Makes the restaurant smaller and emphasizes drive-thru concept
One design that was changed was to make the restaurant area smaller or ideal. Moreover, it is an expansion to busier areas such as cities. Chipotle and Starbucks recently launched similar designs that are smaller than regular locations.
Another KFC design emphasizes drive-thru, which accounts for 60% of the company’s sales in Q3 2020. This design features two drive-thru lanes, with one dedicated for pick-up via mobile orders.
Taco Bell, which is also owned by Yum! Brands (YUM), showed off a similar idea earlier this year. That option also includes an outdoor seating area called the ‘Colonel’s Porch’ and an interior dining area that is smaller than the current KFC layout.
Both concepts feature a brighter brand that accentuates KFC’s classic red and white stripes, as well as a bright red bucket that directs customers to online orders and pick-ups.
Some outlets will have dedicated parking spaces for customers ordering from the KFC app or third-party apps. It is as well as reserved space for delivery drivers for DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Postmates.
KFC said the new designs would roll out in three United States (US) locations next year, in West Palm Beach, Indianapolis and central Kentucky. Drive-thru has become increasingly important for fast food restaurants during the pandemic, with several chains, including McDonald’s and Chipotle, saying they have seen sales pick up more quickly.
Not only KFC, McDonald’s, Burger King and Popeye have all announced a restaurant redesign that enhances the drive-thru.
