WhatsApp’s messaging app management announced the official release of a new privacy policy that shares data with Facebook.
“In response to the news and questions that have arisen recently, WhatsApp wants to emphasize that our new privacy policy does NOT affect chats or conversations between accounts or private groups of our users,” wrote the management, Tuesday (12/1/2021).
“All user chats are still protected by end-to-end encryption, which means that anyone – including WhatsApp and Facebook – cannot read user messages.”
According to management, this privacy policy update only applies to conversations with business accounts that use the WhatsApp Business API and choose a hosting provider outside WhatsApp.
WhatsApp wants its users to be clear that:
* The business can now use Facebook’s hosting infrastructure to chat via WhatsApp
* This means that conversations with the business can be stored on Facebook servers
* If the user talks to a business that chooses a storage method outside of WhatsApp, we will display a notification on chat
* Users are then entitled and free to choose whether they want to interact with the business or not
“Conversations with business accounts that use the free WhatsApp Business application, or those using the WhatsApp Business API but still use the WhatsApp hosting service, are still protected by end-to-encryption. end as usual, “wrote management.
