Youtube provides additional punishment to Donald Trump following the US President’s Channel being suspended for the next week.
The video-sharing platform argued Trump would incite more violence during the inauguration of next US President-elect Joe Biden. In a Youtube statement, Donald J. Trump’s channel was prevented from uploading new content for seven days.
Apart from closing accounts for one week, Youtube also deleted a number of videos deemed to violate policies regarding incitement to violence.
“Due to concerns about potential violence, we removed the latest content from Donald J. Trump’s channel for violating our policies,” said Youtube in a statement.
Another punishment, Youtube closes the comments column on the channel. Unlike account closure, this policy is valid indefinitely and the reason is still a matter of security.
A Number of Social Media Blocking Trump’s Account
Since the riots broke out in the parliament building, a number of social media have punished Trump’s accounts. There is Facebook that immediately takes the step of blocking an account for 24 hours.
Then Facebook gave an additional penalty by extending the blocking period. Although the decision is indefinite, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said at least until Trump stepped down from the US presidency.
In addition, Twitter locked up Trump’s account for 12 hours after tweets and videos of allegations of fraud in the US presidential election were deleted. The platform also ended up permanently closing the @realDonaldTrump account.
Twitter originated from the closure of the account because Trump felt that the platform had committed too many violations.
