Previously there had been a stir that Volkswagen in the United States would change its name to Voltswagen. Apparently it was an April Fools joke that came out too soon. So, Volkswagen has confirmed that this is a publicity error.
For information, April Fools Day or April Fools’ Day is a “month of lies”. A number of people do this for joking.
The official statement of changing the name came from many automotive media. The content publish on the Volkswagen US website on March 29 and then deleted, also contains information on changes to the brand strategy and logo.
“Volkswagen US will not change its name to Voltswagen. The name change is designed to be an announcement in the spirit of April Fools’ Day,” Volkswagen said in a statement after removing the release from its US media site.
“We will immediately provide additional updates on this issue,” continued Volkswagen quoting Automotive News, Tuesday (30/3).
‘Voltswagen’ as a Marketing Trick
Volkswagen spokespersons at their headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany, briefly called the name change a “interesting idea” from the marketing department.
Volkswagen said there was a mistake in publishing the April Fool’s Day joke on March 29, then withdrew it because it had caught the attention of many journalists.
The world’s second-largest automaker is seeking to double distribution of electric vehicles and increase profits after declaring a strategy shift entirely to electric cars by 2025.
But Volkswagen officials have said efforts in the US are less explosive than Tesla or General Motors.
Please note this is not the first time many people questioning Volkswagen’s marketing division. They caused a stir last year with a video clip showing a black man being controlled by a giant white hand.
