Nowadays, malicious virus attacks Ransomware is one of the biggest cybersecurity problems in the world. Those who become victims get a lot of losses if they are successfully infiltrated.

Ransomware is a software form of malware that will encrypt files and documents from one PC to an entire network. The victim will be given the option to gain access by paying a ransom to the perpetrator.

Facts About Ransomware

What Is Ransomware?

Ransomware is a form of malicious software malware. With this, attackers can encrypt files and documents from one PC to the entire network, including servers. Perpetrators will demand some kind of ransom from their victims so they can regain access to the network.

Where does it come from?

A number of ransomware infections come from someone in an organization clicking on something. Usually it takes the form of the original attachment and downloads it, but it turns out that the file contains malicious content and directly encrypts the network.

In addition, it can also hack passwords or attack other vulnerabilities in the targeted organization. Perpetrators use weak points such as internet-connected servers or remote desktop logins.

The perpetrators would stealthily attack before finally being able to control as much as possible. Before finally encrypting the data they can.

How Much Do Ransomware Attacks Cost?

Speaking of ransom, it depends on demand. It also looks at the type of ransomware or the size of the organization that is the victim.

Ransomware attacks can come in many sizes. But the perpetrators will usually ask for up to millions of dollars to return access to the network they encrypted on the victim.

But if the organization has not paid, it means not only lost a lot of time. It’s also possible to have more money to bring in a cybersecurity company and restore access to the network.

The amount may cost more than the ransom ransom for the ransomware. But the payments are made for legitimate businesses rather than giving money to criminals.

Why Worry?

Simply imagine, Ransomware can ruin a business. Locking out files for even just one day can have an impact on revenue. Given that ransomware victims end up taking systems offline for extended periods of time, the losses end up being huge.

In addition to financial matters, consumer confidence is also at stake. They are likely to be more wary of providing data to organizations they cannot trust for security.

The perpetrators are also not only the target business. But infrastructure that interferes with people in the real world for example a hospital or industrial facility.

Why are Small Businesses Targeted for Ransomware?

Small and medium-sized businesses are popular targets for ransomware. Because these companies have far worse cybersecurity than large companies.

Many ME actors think they are too small to be targeted. But even a small ransom is still profitable for the perpetrators.
