The talks between the US and Japan pertaining to their trade deal has been going for days. Accordingly, the peak of the negotiation is expected to be at G7 Summit, France. However, there is no announcement about it so far.
Previously, the negotiations were between Toshimitsu Motegi, Japan’s Economy Minister, and Robert Lighthizer, the US trade representative.
The three days bilateral negotiations were in Washington and the continuation would take place during G7 Summit in Biarritz, France.
However, the talks between the US and Japan in France did not provide the results both countries expect. Voice of America reported that Trump said that he was “very close to a major deal with Japan”.
It remains unknown whether the trade announcement would not take place at all or there is a delay on that.

The US-Japan Trade Negotiation
The US and Japan, represented by their representatives, have conducted a three day bilateral trade negotiations in Washington. The talks, in addition, were pertaining to many stuffs including the deals in Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
In accordance with the negotiations, Japan seems to agree to lower tariffs on American beef and pork to levels set by the Trans-Pacific Partnership. At the same time, the country also lets Washington maintain its 2.5% levy on Japanese autos at the moment.
“We saw a great progress,” said Toshimitsu Motegi, Japan’s Economy Minister, to the reporters in Washington.
“This progress will be confirmed at the Japan-US summit (on the sidelines of G7 Summit in France),” he added.
Although there appears to be good negotiations between the two countries, US President Donald Trump seems to have a sentiment. Furthermore, he thinks Japan has more advantage over the trade and demands for a “more fair” relationship.
Despite the situation, Trump still thinks that Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is a good friend. “Prime Minister Abe and I are very good friends,” he stated.
