Huawei Technologies Co. announced on Wednesday that it will invest 1.5 billion U.S. dollars over the next five years to support 5 million global developers. It is to support the Huawei Developer Program it has been pushing.
According to CNBC, Ken Hu, president of Huawei’s Technology Circular, made the announcement today (9/18). While explaining its strategy for ‘Open Ecosystem’ computing industry at ‘Huawei Connect 2019′, which is held at the Shanghai Expo Center.
Ken Hu declared that it would break through the U.S. encirclement barrier by helping developers develop software for Huawei’s future semiconductor chips and computing platforms.
Huawei, Developer Program, and U.S. threat
So far, Huawei has provided 1.3 million developers and 14,000 software companies from around the world. And it has done it through its development assistance program Developer Program. The company first launched the program in 2015.
Back at the event, Hu stated, “The support project is an upgrade of the Developer Program. The purpose is to encourage outside developers and businesses to create applications for Huawei’s service. Including its operating system (OS) and Hong Meng.”
“The computer industry will grow rapidly in the future and expand to $2 trillion,” claimed Hu.
Previously, US President Donald Trump urged other countries, including its allies, to cut ties with Huawei in a prolonged Huawei ban. And he is imposing export restrictions on its technology and products.
All of this on the grounds that Huawei poses a threat to national security. The U.S. President accused that its 5G technology is open for Chinese government to spy on other countries.
Since the accusation, Huawei is going all out to make a breakthrough in technological innovation and market exploration.
“We are actively seeking and developing ways to replace U.S. technologies in high-tech fields such as artificial intelligence chips and software in order to maintain our status as the world’s largest telecommunication facility company,” Huawei said.
In addition, Hu said Huawei’s Developer Program has already done very well. Also, he stressed that expanding the support to 5 million partner developers will lead to more results.
Later, Huawei is said to announce a detailed plan to support developers on Tuesday.
