Trump appears to delay his decision to impose tariffs on  EU automobiles. Reportedly, the recent ‘good conversation’ between Washington and EU, Japan, and South Korea’s automakers affects the decision.

US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross made a statement that the US might not need to impose the tariffs. Previously, his agency was investigating the effect of the automobile imports on US National Security under the Section 232.

An EU official foresees that Trump administration would not impose the tariffs for approximately another six months. Although this is yet to be official, he claims that he sensed the strong indication.

“We have a solid indication from the administration that there will not be tariffs on us this week,” one EU official, demanding to remain anonymous, said.

Accordingly, the US has situated the identical policy of not imposing tariffs on auto on several occasions, namely, with Japan and South Korea. Trump’s promise to not impose tariffs on auto comes with a conditional term.

“We believe that nothing will happen for now. But, the threat of tariffs will be left there as leverage,” stated a European diplomat.

Trump Deals with the EU the Wrong Way

Ever since Trump becomes the president of the US, he oftentimes establishes moves that contradict the EU. The beginning of his presidency notably shifted the transatlantic relationship accordingly.

Anthony Gardner, a former US ambassador, said that President Donald Trump has performed a historical mistake. In his opinion, Trump administration declares a certain thing bad and acts against it simply because they do not like it.

“This administration decided that European integration is bad and that the EU is in fact an enemy. That’s the word that the president used, worse than a distraction, because it stands for things that this administration doesn’t like,” said Gardner.

“For 60 years, the US administration, both Republic and Democratic, thought that European integration should be promoted because it was good for Europe and it was good for the US,” he added, indicating that the current president is violating what has been built.

Trump’s recent, considerable feat in worsening the relationship with the European countries refers to his new trade war declaration. Besides, his administration also openly supports Brexit, which happens to jeopardize the EU immensely.
