As many predict, there is going to be an intervention from China in Japan-South Korea bilateral relationships. In so doing, the three countries schedule to hold a trilateral meeting in December 24 in Chengdu.
According to plans, the talks will be a platform to exchange views on various topics, including Japan-South Korea trade war, regional security issues, and North Korea-US denuclearization negotiations. The highlights fall upon trade war and bilateral-historical issues and North Korea’s ballistic missile tests.
Attending the talks, three leaders of the countries will attend the summit. Accordingly, they are Japanese PM Abe Shinzo, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
Through the discussion, leaders expect solutions for the escalating tensions between Japan and South Korea as well as collective acts to sustain peace amid North Korea’s mayhem.
Prior to China’s attempt, South Korea has refused other foreign interventions to settle the dispute with against Japan. Among them is the US.
As for China, it is not the first time that Beijing offers to help provide settlement for the dispute. However, Japan and South Korea might agree now for they want to focus on a more concerning matter, the North.

China, Japan, and South Korea to Discuss Security amid North Korea Tension
China, Japan, and South Korea will thoroughly discuss the solutions to the constantly skyrocketing security issues in the region. Among the issues, the focus is greatly on North Korea’s ballistic missile tests.
Accordingly, North Korea’s continual missile test is putting the region in constant worry. Especially for the Japanese, recent North Korea’s missile tests mostly occurred near Japan’s territory.
Arguably, the reason why North Korea appears to intensify its ballistic missile tests is due to US’ decisions to ‘indirectly’ threaten the country. To the North’s defense, the placement of US troops in South Korea and Japan respectively puts Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un in a bad mood.
Considering North Korea’s missile test, the country is actually under prohibiting of firing or conducting missile tests by UN Security Council. Despite the ban, North seems to invalidate the resolution and do things its own way.
For that reason, US President Donald Trump is trying to establish good ties with the country. Furthermore, the US is conducting further denuclearization talks with North Korea under circumstances.
However, the seemingly not progressing negotiations put North Korea in a worse mood. North Korea even threatens that if the US does not abide by Pyongyang’s requests, the country will prepare a ‘Christmas present.’
