Chinese smartphone brands still dominate the Indian market. According to a report by International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Asia/Pasific Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. In this second quarter of 2019,
Again, Xiaomi leads at the first place with 10.4 million shipments which counts for 28% of the whole smartphone market in India. Vivo and Oppo are in the third and fourth place. Each shipped 5.6 and 3.6 million smartphones to India, with 15.1% and 9.7% of market share. respectively. Another Chinese smartphone brand, Realme, stands at the fifth place with 2.8 million shipment and 7.7% of market share.
In the middle of the dominating Chinese smartphone brands, Samsung stands strong on the Indian market. With 9.3 million shipment to the country, it is at the second place with 25.3% market share. It is just 3% behind Xiaomi.

A chance for Samsung to beat out the Chinese smartphone brands
Despite being at the top of the chart, Xiaomi is actually experiencing a decrease in the unit market share. It has a slight drop of 1.4% from the previous quarter. While Samsung is constantly increasing from the fourth quarter of 2018.
It is not impossible for Samsung to take over Xiaomi and re-reigns again as the biggest smartphone shipper to India. Overall, the only thing that makes people hesitate to buy Samsung is its high price. With the new Galaxy A series coming, Samsung most likely will be able to regain popularity within the middle class.
Vivo, Oppo and Realme are also seeing a climb on the shipment to India. Both Vivo and Oppo’s increase are due to their affordable phones such as Oppo A Series and Vivo Y91 series. And Realme which is famous for its cheap price seems to gain more users in India.
This quarter also marks as the biggest quarter in India’s smartphone industry. It recorded the highest shipment of smartphones to its country with a total of 69.3 million mobile phones shipped. It is a 9.9% year o year growth and 14% increase from the previous quarter in 2019.
