It’s relatively easy to make an international transfer with Western Union. If you need some support and want to deal with someone face to face, you should go to a nearby place to handle the transaction. Costs and fees differ, depending on both how you finance the transfer and how you want it to be handled.
Here are 4 steps you need to know to make an international transfer with Western Union. Read the previous article here.
5. Process the Transfer on the Phone
Some transactions may be made through a credit or debit card over the internet. This option will not be available for all transfers however, so test the availability in your particular circumstances.
Whatever route you choose, you must complete a form-either online, on the phone or in hard copy-providing both the payment information and the recipient.
6. Choose How You Want to Pay
You will be asked how you want to pay for the transfer, and in most situations, if you are in a store, you can choose between cash, while online you can choose credit or debit card, or bank transfer.
The fees and charges for these various forms of payment vary widely. In general terms, paying with a credit or debit card-although this may mean that the payment is quicker-is much more costly than paying with a bank transfer.
7. Pass the Details of the Transfer to the Recipient
You will be given an MTCN reference number when you position the switch. The receiver uses this to collect the cash. You would need to send the receiver the MTCN number if they intend to visit a nearby west union outlet to receive their cash.
Optional: The MTCN is a tracking number given when you place your transfer which can be used if the payment needs to be tracked. You can do this online or by visiting a help desk.
8. Recipient Collects the Payment Once Processed
Depending on the payment method, and whether the receiver collects in person or not, processing time can vary from a few minutes to several days. At the point where you place your transfer, the approximate processing time is displayed. And then, you can then monitor your transfer progress using your reference number if you need to.
If the payment is completed, the recipient will be able to receive it from a Western Union office. Also, you can draw it directly from their bank account if you then opted for a deposit.
