Today’s business leaders face an extremely uncertain road ahead. As businesses, including my own, chart a new path forward, they are going to need to deploy creative thinking at every turn — from rethinking business models, to re-examining customer experiences, to developing new products.
Leaders need to discover and make use of creativity across their existing workforce to thrive in the next chapter. Here’s where to start as business leaders.
1. Broaden the Definition of Creative
Leaders need to re-evaluate their own views. It means to be innovative in order to promote it effectively at work.
You don’t need to be a sculptor or graphic designer. Creativity at its core is a part of being human — it’s universal. How we use our imaginations, share ideas and interpret the world around us is entirely personal.
2. Build a Culture that Champions Creativity
Although innovation happens at the individual level, mutual artistic pursuits and passions bind people together in ways that are profoundly important.
This is necessary to create a framework. And also, it sets aside time for when teamwork will arise so that staff from different agencies, positions and experiences are drawn together. Individuals like to learn the thoughts of others, in order to inspire or sharpen their own.
Giving workers the ability to take chances can promote innovation. But, administrators need to realize that exchanging innovative thoughts can often make people feel uncomfortable and have the reverse impact.
3. Use Creativity as a Tool of Wellness
Work-life balance and encouraging employees to tap into creative outlets outside of the workplace not only can lead to breakthroughs, but also can do wonders for boosting mental health and overall wellbeing.
A simple way to achieve that is with a stipend for artistic practice, whether it’s signing up for an online painting class. For instance, taking part in a photographic course or attending an online writing seminar.
Employees who thoroughly develop their innovative talents are the ones who come up with the most fresh ideas and encourage us to go beyond established approaches.
