Being a career woman has its own challenges. Wherever, and whoever you are, here are five points that you, career women, need to know!
Dear women, you deserve your career
According to Forbes, women have the tendency to keep their career achievements low key. Keep your chin up. Be proud of your success. You are well deserved of the praises you receive. Don’t let people belittle you.
Let your voice be heard
One common mistreatment career women experience is sudden interruptions. Even Kamala Harris received the same treatment in the recent presidential debate. Be strong and say it to them like Kamala Harris did: “I am speaking,” and let your voice be heard.
Women are also humans, it’s okay not to be perfect
Forbes noted that career women often obsess over every inch of detail and going on infinitive repetitions on a trivial task. What do they seek? Approval, appreciation, and acknowledgement. Throw them all. This unhealthy habit can trigger you to depression, anxiety, addiction, life paralysis, and missed opportunities. Start realizing that being imperfect is okay, and in some cases done is better than perfect.
Quoted from Forbes, being vulnerable could instead grow a culture of trust, engagement, and respect. Accepting your vulnerability, especially as a leader, means you don’t have to outrun or outsmart uncertainty, risk and emotional exposure. That way you will be able to be more truthful to yourself.
As career women, be wise with your job
Still slightly correlated to the previous point, obsessions over perfection may lead you to finishing on everything by yourself. Some career women might even go beyond their extent. Your coworkers are there to help you. Don’t go through the rough patches to do things that you are not qualified to do. Delegate your job to those who are competent and believe them.
Also, do not be afraid of rejecting things, such as additional workload. Taking all the workload when you already have a lot on your desk can only stress you out.
Another thing to note is to avoid useless fights. Let’s face it: women are often the victim of harassment in their workplace. Don’t let your emotion start a commotion. Find the most effective way to address the problem. If things go out of control, try to find some institutions that could back you up and retrieve the justice.
Never fall for the tiara syndrome
The tiara syndrome is when you seek for a recognition tiara to put on your head. Forbes recommends practising humble confidence. However, don’t back off from some well-deserved spotlights on your achievements. Being too humble can backfire, and instead, make people take you for granted. Even worse, others could steal the credits belonged to you.
