In the process of applying for job, job interviews and waiting for the results are often very thrilling. While waiting, you should know that there are many intentions that Human Resource Department (HRD) said during the interview. We believe that HRD is trained to ensure that his words and actions do not show any type of personal bias.
Thus, the positive words that are spoken may mean other things. It’s time for you to break the HRD code which means vague.
Because understanding what HRD really means can help you mentally prepare for the best and the worst. More importantly, you will know when it’s time to start looking for other opportunities.
Quoted from CNBC, here are some of the most common things HRD said if not impressed with your interview.
“We will contact you”
If HRD say “We will contact you,” they might not feel interested in your interview. If they feel you are not suitable for the role, they will make the shortest possible response.
Sometimes, if they have said such words, you might not hear from them even after the position is filled.
However, it depends on the choice of words they make.
“I don’t want to take up too much of your time”
In general, face-to-face interviews take about 45 minutes or more, so that’s a bad sign if your meeting is scheduled for an hour but is cut short.
However, don’t give up quickly if it happens. You can try to show more of your skills during the interview.
“We have a few more candidates to screen, so we will update you as the process progresses”
It usually means that you have been categorized as package B or a backup candidate. They don’t hate you, but they don’t like you either.
Maybe they have already submitted offers to other candidates and are waiting for news. If that doesn’t work for any reason, you might be in the next order to consider.
“If you are not selected for this position, are you interested in the position [X]?”
This response is a little more encouraging. If you are asking this question, do not immediately answer “no”. Let them know you want to learn more.
