Personal data has become very risky since financial technology is increasingly emerging with various clusters. Protection of personal data also becomes the government’s concern.

However, the protection of personal data actually starts with yourself.

Thus, consider the 10 tips you can do to protect personal data starting from yourself:

1. Be careful of pishing attempts

Don’t rush to open the link you received, both on your social media pages and in your email.

Many parties are not responsible for taking personal data from sites or unclear links like that. Thus, make sure the source of the link is from an official institution.

2. Use a different password on each account

Use a different PIN or password for each account you have. Don’t use the same username and password in all applications.

Additionally, the PIN or password must also consist of numbers, punctuation, and letters. You also have to change the password periodically and tell others.

According to forbes, lock your phone with a strong password and fingerprint or Touch ID. Use a mobile password manager like 1Password or LastPass to keep your passwords strong and unique across all of your devices and accounts.

3. Be careful while using free wifi

Don’t use free wifi if you don’t know the source. However, many people are using free wifi as a means of breaking into data.

In addition, it is highly recommended not to carry out financial transactions or online shopping when you have free wifi with unclear sources.

4. Log out E-banking

Never leave your cellphone when you are opening an e-banking page. You should log out of your e-banking when you want to leave the device.

5. Ensure Licensed Application

Choose the application whose data security is maintained. For fintech, make sure the application you are using is licensed from the authorized company. If not, it will be difficult for us to monitor it.

6. Don’t share personal data

It is better to avoid disseminating data by avoiding sending data to unknown parties through digital conversation applications.

To avoid misuse of data from irresponsible parties, never send personal data to strangers through digital conversation applications.

7. Secure Site Access

If you want to shop online, access a safe and trusted shopping site. You can recognize it by looking for the lock icon in the top left corner before the site address. Usually, the padlock account shows the sites you are accessing, safe.

Additionally, you can use a site address that starts with https: /.

8. Don’t give OTP to anyone

In recent years, many people have complained that digital money in their digital payment accounts has left little or even vanished due to giving One Time Password (OTP) to unknown parties.
This unknown party has many reasons, such as claiming to be a customer service agent in the digital payment application that you use, or giving a gift in the form of a balance that makes you tempted.

Whatever the reason is, don’t give an OTP when you don’t know who they are.

9. Update Software

To increase account security, update your laptop or cellphone software regularly. By updating the software, you will also be updating your cellphone’s security system from viruses that might take data.

10. Use additional privacy

If you often open a pin in a public place, use additional privacy on your mobile. This privacy can be done by encoding the phone or securing the screen.

For example to secure the screen, use a dark colored screen so that people around you cannot see the pin or password that you typed, especially when doing a financial transaction.
