Microsoft (MS) is paying bonus to its employees for their hard work during the COVID-19.
According to CNBC on the 9th, Microsoft recently decided to pay $1,500 to each employee in order to make them stay.
The bonus will be paid between July and August, and employees of Microsoft are employees except subsidiaries such as GitHub, LinkedIn, and Zenimax. Employees of overseas branches are also eligible for consolation payments.
The “Great Resignation” trend is one of the reasons behind Microsoft’s decision.
In the U.S., where vaccinations have recently been actively carried out, many companies are closing their telework and pushing to return to their offices as the spread of covid-19 subsides.
However, there is a phenomenon in which many workers who do not want to return to their offices voluntarily resign and companies are facing a headwind.
In fact, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor, the number of retirees reached a record high of 4 million in April, and the retirement rate reached 2.7%.
On the other hand, Microsoft’s cloud computing business has been booming due to the spread of telework, and its sales in the first quarter rose 19% year-on-year to $41.7 billion.
Microsoft has been listed as a $2 trillion club with Apple since its market capitalization surpassed $1 trillion in just two years ago.
Microsoft’s cash reserves amounted to 125 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter.
