The CEO of Telegram, a message app, said they have secured 70 million new users in a day due to a recent Facebook connection failure.
According to Reuters and AFP on the 5th (local time), Telegram CEO Pavel Durov made the remarks through his Telegram channel.
“Telegram’s daily user registration and activities have increased on record,” CEO Durov wrote. “We welcomed 70 million refugees from other platforms in a day.”
“I’d like to say welcome to Telegram, the biggest independent message platform for new users,” he said. “Unlike other platforms, we won’t disappoint you.”
CEO Durov explained that millions of people joined Telegram at the same time, slowing down some users in the Americas, but most of the services were provided as usual.
According to market research firm Sensor Tower, Telegram rose from 56th place to 5th place, the most downloaded free app in the United States during the Facebook connection failure.
