Total sales of major Taiwanese technology companies, which are considered leading indicators of the global IT economic trend, increased 17.7% year-on-year in August 2022.
According to the media, 19 Taiwanese IT companies, including Honghai Precision, the world’s largest electronic device consignment production service (EMS), recorded T$1.2942 trillion in August. It increased for the fourth consecutive month.
Production of electronic devices and semiconductors was strong ahead of the launch of Apple’s new iPhone.
The largest sales were Honghai Precision, the world’s largest EMS company, which accounts for 60 percent of iPhone sales, with 448.9 billion dollars, up 12.2 percent from the same month last year.
The world’s second-largest EMS, Hershey Lianhe Technology, which accounts for 30 percent of iPhone shipments, jumped 36 percent to $116 billion.
Kwangda Computer, the world’s No. 1 maker of Apple’s laptop MacBook, also saw its sales increase 55.7% in August to T$131.8 billion due to strong sales of new products.
Sales of TSMC (TSMC), the world’s No. 1 semiconductor consignment production company that exclusively supplies high-tech chips, the “brain” of the iPhone 14, increased significantly to T$218.1 billion. It hit a new monthly high.
However, sales of Lian Pha Technology, a semiconductor design and development company, rose only 4% to T$44.6 billion.
Nanya Technology, a semiconductor memory maker for home appliances, plunged 58.4 percent to T$3.4 billion, and liquid crystal panel Judas AUO also plunged 51 percent to T$16 billion.
Computer-ordered production of Renbao’s electronic brain industry fell 13.2 percent to NT$88.8 billion.
The media predicted that it is unclear whether Taiwan’s IT industry will continue to be strong after autumn, the peak season every year due to concerns over the worsening Chinese economy and inflation.
