Working for Startups: Pros and Cons

startups

Today, startup companies are a symbol of innovation and fluidness. It goes against the image of their bigger, corporate counterparts which are deemed traditional and rigid.

Fresh grads are excited about the prospects of working for startups. Even the ones who want something fresh for their careers are opting to jump in and try out these companies.

But everything surely has its ups and downs. This article provides you with a weighing scale of the good (and bad side) of working for these companies.

PROS

FLUIDITY

The absence of a rigid culture, hierarchy, and strategies can be clearly seen with the startup companies. With them, there will be a lot of space for ideas and innovation in the absence of rigidness. Ideas from everyone can have a fighting chance to be noticed. Fluidity is their key asset in thriving in the ever-shifting demands of the world today.

EXCITING

The corporate world has a different way to excite prospective employees: paycheck.

But people are thrilled to work for a fresh, fluid and developing company. They are more stimulated to work because they can see the worth of working for innovative ideas and solutions.

CONS

THE (unsure) SUCCESS

Startups are all about fluidity — including its foundations. It may promise liberations, but not the assurance that it can survive. With a little capital to hold on and fierce competition, only the “chosen few’ will surely survive. It’s exciting to work with these companies, but it doesn’t offer the job security that we need.

Startup companies offer a lot of promises and opportunities, and these things are indeed exciting. But before hopping right away, we should hold our legs first to see if these bandwagons are really worth it. We should be wise and look at every aspect before making a new decision (and transition).
